floralslut asked: I love your post on Jennifer Lawrence and I agree she needs to be called out on her shit but as far as her talking about her weight and her eating habits, I don't think it's really your place to say she's not fat. She has been called overweight countless times by the media so she's responding to that by saying that she loves to eat and that it's okay to love to eat. A lot of people develop eating disorders as teenagers and she's speaking out against that.
I think the problem is that she speaks out against eating disorders by calling out the people WITH eating disorders, not people CAUSING eating disorders. Like OK, she’ll say “it’s weird that hollywood categorizes me as fat” as an observance, and then in the same conversation say shit like “anorexics are just crazy omfg wtf.” It goes with her whole misunderstanding of mental disorders.
I’m sure she’s been called fat, but let’s be honest, if Amber Riley or Gabourey Sidibe went on the record talking about how “omfg I love to eat” they would immediately be slayed by tumblr and the rest of the internet. Why? Because those women (notably, BLACK WOMEN) are actually, ACTUALLY considered “fat.” Jennifer Lawrence says “I’m so considered fat’ and everybody is like “OMFG BODY POSITIVITY NO SHE’S NOT AT ALL SHE’S BEAUTIFUL” and she got cast as mystique (a character that is literally in the nude all the time) and Katniss Everdeen (a character literally described as “too skinny to be pretty”). There is no way Amber Riley would have been cast as Katniss. That’s the difference.
So it’s actually super, super harmful for a person with Jennifer Lawrence’s body to go around saying “I’m such a fat kid” when actually on the scale of body size, she’s considered normal. In fact, her appeal is “I’m so normal.” So the way she addresses weight issues is incredibly harmful and ignorant.
I don’t mind the whole “I love to eat” thing she does but I have hated the way she makes fun of people with weight issues.
